It seems I can have my cake and eat it as it turns out (via @Jas) that the prodigious WLW plugin writer @scottisafool has written a plugin called Writerous to enable posting from WLW to posterous.

In fact, this post is written using that plugin so if it works, then it works! Thanks Jas and Scott.
